YOUR PRESIDENT REPORTS A message from the President often contains great words of wisdom and an ~bundance of adjectives describing the achievements of his term of office, and ends with some trivial effort to impose upon his successor the plans for the coming year. I have no intention of doing any of the above. My limited wisdom must remain in the field of Pedagogics (boy there is a dandy) and I dare not venture too far even on that subject. As I follow in the imprints of my ;:redecessor I claim no great accomplish-~ents, the plans were well laid by cap-3.ble and dependable persons long before I wandered upon the scene. Your association has made fine Frogress this year, cut this was in-evitable, t!->e interest and need for such :>dvances was evident and you needed only a place to put all of your energy and ideas to work. The state associa-tion provided this focal point and from this reservoir of ideas and energy plans are beginning to flow. As evidenced by the wealth of articles app~aring in our magazines and newspapers concerning recreation, we are now in the midst of a vast pro-gram to improve our recreational fac-ilities. Your association intends to be very much interested in these plans and will make every effort to be heard -'-·Y those responsible for improvement wtenever the opportunity arises. So my good jeeping friends there you have it. What will be done depends upon your interest and energy. Your officers, committee chairmen and others are willing, ready and able to streng-:hen our position. ******* Plan now to attend the State Asso-ciation meeting August 12 and 13 in l'ulare. Saturday meeting 8:00 P. M. Sunday meeting 9:00 A. M. The Jeep dealer in Tulare will have information regarding meeting place. T ..l... CALIFORNIA RECREATION REFORT The California Public Outdoor Recrea-tion rlan Cow.mittee recently published a detailed study involving information on California's recreation needs, available supply and recommendations for making re-creation opportunities available to the people. This report is one of the finest ever pub1ished in our state. It deals with a very critical problem which concerns every resident of California who is interested in the future of recreation. Published in 1960 the report is made in two parts. Part I presents a summary of the state's recreational needs and re-sources in.terms of the major outdoor re-creational interests, with emphasis upon patterns of recreation at present. Part II contains maps, charts, tables, and graphs. It shows current demands and future require-ments. It clarifies what must be done if the ever-increasing recreational needs are to be met. We who are interested in the outdoor type of activities must be prepared to meet these challenges and to do so we must be adequately and intelligently informed. We must be prepared to assist in the planning of the use of our forests, deserts and recreational lands. Governmental bodies encourage the assistance of clubs, associa-tions and interested parties in developing these areas and facilities. The State Association should makeevery effort to participate in the formulating of policies and regulations which have an effect upon the jeeping in our state. The two parts of the California Public Outdoor Recreation Plan are for sale by the Documents Section, Printing Division, Sac-ramento, California. Part I -$2.00, Part II-$2.00. California residents please add 4 percent tax. They are recommended for your individual or club purchase. ******* Hill n Gully Riders of Riverside re-port a membership of twenty-five members, and adding new ones each meeting. We are growing.

Paul Thompson, Publicity Chair-man for the Desert Burros, reminds us that there are many people who need to be educated to the fact that destruc-tion and breaking of the laws bring more restrictions. Through our State Association he sees a good opportunity to bring out the fact that all people who like to travel off the beaten path are not bent upon wanton destruction. The Area Closure Committee re-ceived another shot in the arm from the Joaquin Jeepers. A pledge of $50.00 was given to this program at their June meeting. They also have a beautiful trophy to put on display for their efforts in a parade held in Stockton. Sounds like an active group. ******* Words of wisdom from The Kingfish of Tulare. "Let's not get a bad name for the jeeps by starting fires and tearing up the countryside. Let's all have a good time and take lots of + . .,rips, but be safe and sane with our +'. ~ires, firearms and Jeeps." ••••••• Hemet Facts: 3urg Ashley sleeps in his jeep. Veep Harry Buschert took correspondence lessons from the same school as Law-rence Welk. Harry had his own band for many years in the mid west. 99.44 percent of the men in this club are over weight. Mrs. Clyde is a fine ballroom dancer. ******* Hilltoppers of Culver City, en-tered the Redondo Beach Little League Parade, and came away with a fine trophy. They are very proud, first time they have received a trophy of any sort. Good public relations. ******* 3. Your Association President has had the opportunity to appear as guest speaker at several service clubs in his area. It is a fine opportunity to acquaint the public with the aims and purposes of our organization as well as the use of our natural resources. Questions from the audience prove very interesting and lead to informative answers and discussion. President Neely recommends to any mem-ber having an opportunity to appear before groups of this or any other type, to take advantage of the invitation. It not only serves as good public relations but also provides a service to the community. Information concerning activity will be of benefit your club's to the editor. We cannot use it all but we know there are many worthy and interesting events being carried on throughout the state that would be of interest to all. This paper is to be published twice a year and contributions should fit into this time schedule. Next edition will be out during the month of December • ******* News from Yahama, Washington informs us that the local Jeep clubs in the area have formed the Pacific North West Associa-tion. Our best wishes in their new organiza-tion. Did you know that the State of Calif-ornia spends $275.000 to $325.000 a year to replace or repair highway signs destroy-ed by vandalism. This does not include county and city signs. Rifle and gun shot blasts are responsible for the majority of this senseless destruction and waste of taxpayer's money. ****'"**
