s. ~ ~--1)~ This marks the end of our first year of operation under the Board of irectors system. row that we have learned how to operate under this system I know that t he California Association of 4 ·!heel f Drive Clubs will continue to grow and become more effectiv~. t This past year resulted in many changes and the~~~turing of ideas brought forth in past years. The Conservation Weekend alone found clubs taking part this year that did not even consider it last year. I know that 1968 will find every club in the CA4\IDC working effectively on some conservation project. Too it will not be unusual to find clubs which are not members of the CA4'-JDC engaged in some conservation effort. The CA4JDC and its member clubs have produced great results in protecting our right to use the back country. Places such as Monache r ,adows, Los Podres ational Forest which had twenty thou-sand acres opened this year, and the agreement reached with the U.S. Navy concerning t he Superstition Hills are solid evidence that this association is working , producing and ax actively protecting our right to enjoy the back country. Individual clubs have responded greatly when asked to accept a task or assume a part of t he work load. I point out the Annual Rally which was the result of more than a dozen clubs working together. Also the Sareea Al Jamel Club of Indio which hosted Mr. J • .Jhitehead of the the State Division of Beaches and Parks and his family to a weekend in the Imperial Sand Hills introduceing them to the won-derful recreational value of t hese magnificent sand hills and the wonderful enjoyment of 4 wheeling. Our participation in other clubs 4WD events is most commendable, I doubt t hat there was a annual 4:-TD event held anywhere in the Western United St ates which did not have members of our clubs in attendance. Also some of the l ar gest and best attended annual 4ID events are held in the southern area. The year 1968 promises to be most productive as we continue the work of the CA4~.'DC and construct a more business like manner of operation in the southern area . Our area meetings will continue \[ to ~<M,W more i terns of business , even now we are considering i terns 1 sucfi "~as a statewide blood bank for 4 wheelers. I hope to make each of you aware of t he working of the CA4 ·!DC an stimulate enough interest so that you will look for some way to help carry out the work. Remember that in this time of growing population a n d expansion of our c ities, only t hrough a strong and active statewide 4t1D association such as this one can we hope to retain areas of the public lands for our sport.

I ask each of you to give of your time, talents, and _.energy in order to assure the continued orderly growth of 4 wheeling. We must insure that 4 wheelers of t he future will b aff.o-reded th·e chance to enjoy t his sport as we now do. I thank each club in the southern are for t he help given and the ElllK:fixlix confidance shown me t his past year. Si nderely, µ_
